Porsche Carrera GT Valved Sport Exhaust System

This system is made entirely from stainless steel and built around the 5.7 liter V10 of the Porsche Carrera GT, with a twin X-pipe in F1 style. The aim was a high, exotic V10 tone in which no drone is audible on long drives.

Performance and construction

• Two primary sections of 3 inch (76 mm) from the factory manifolds
• Four intermediate sections of 63 mm
• Twin X-pipe crossover with two crossover sections of 60 mm
• Four separate sections of 63 mm after the crossover
• Two outlets of 3 inch (76 mm) to the original exhaust tip positions
• Integrated sound valve control

The twin X-pipe lets the exhaust pulses from both cylinder banks exchange with each other. That improves scavenging and delivers the high overtones that belong to an exhaust in Formula 1 style.

Sound and control

The valves work through separate bypass sections that leave the high, exotic character of the Carrera GT intact, instead of routing the gas flow through heavily muffled bypass paths that take away exactly the best frequencies. Muffling was never the goal. With the valves open the system sounds like a V10 from Formula 1. With the valves closed the level is low enough for an early start, the city or a long touring drive.

The carbon monocoque lets a lot of road, tire and wind noise through into the interior. During development the emphasis therefore lay on eliminating cabin drone, resonance peaks, low booming tones and fatigue over long distances.

How it sounds

Fitment and homologation

The system fits the Porsche Carrera GT with chassis code 980, and it mounts to the factory manifolds and to the original tip positions in the rear bumper.
